Soothing your dogs from thunder
Why some dogs are scared of loud noises especially thunder? It’s difficult to identify a cause of phobia. Some might claim that they had some childhood trauma, certain breeds, or sensitive hearing can be the factor of phobia. A dog may hiding, whining, barking, pawing or even urination during a thunderstorm in order to calm him/herself and feel protected.
Preliminary, owners need to ensure that all the doors are completely closed and keep objects that can harm our fur kids in a safe place in case they are alone. Nonetheless, when handling with this anxieties, it is very crucial not to punish nor fondle him/her too much due to it can worsen the circumstances. In addition, punishing will make them more fearful which implies that thunder is not only to be afraid of but come with punishment as well. However, cuddling is also not recommended since they will understand that these anxious behaviors are right things to do.
Consequently, the key to soothing dogs from thunder is to desensitize them to thunder or other loud noises. It can be done by opening thunder sound in low volume while distracting him/her by keep them entertained i.e. playing fetching. Even though this process will be long and require a lot of perseverance, our fur kids will definitely feel more comfortable during a thunderstorm at the end of the days.
